Coming Out Prayer

"I'm Lyndsey and I'm 24. This poem was written to a dead family member - my mum. She passed away in the springtime of 2000, two weeks after my 17th birthday. We always had a close relationship but there was one thing that I never talked to her about. The thing was I thought I might be lesbian.
About three and a half years later, I realised and accepted that myself. It upsets me that I'll never have her opinion, know her thoughts and feelings about it. I'll never have that knowledge of whether of not she would be proud of me or disappointed. I can only hope she'd still love me and is proud of the person I have become."
